The ocean and its inhabitants have long served as an inspiration to Certina. This fascination has resulted not only in a number of remarkable marine-themed timepieces, but also in an enduring partnership which is now in its sixth year. Working alongside the Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC), the brand has been campaigning for the conservation of the sea turtle and its habitats since 2017. A new special model is now bringing together two topics close to Certina's heart – watchmaking and a dedication to sustainability.
A portion of the revenues from each DS-2 Turning Bezel Sea Turtle Conservancy sold will be donated to the STC to fund their ongoing work. But even the timepiece itself has a significant role to play when it comes to sustainability. The tonneau-shaped titanium case middle, which features a unidirectional rotating bezel, is worn on a grey-blue striped textile strap made from #tide ocean material®. This material is manufactured from recycled plastic that has been fished out of the sea.
The DS-2 Turning Bezel Sea Turtle Conservancy is powered by an automatic movement with a power reserve of 80 hours and an anti-magnetic Nivachron® balance spring, which can be admired through the transparent case back. The special model is presented in packaging made entirely of recycled materials, yet another aspect of its environmental friendliness.
