Certina reinforces its long-term collaboration with the non-profit Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC) with a colourful timepiece: the DS SUPER PH1000M STC. Since 2017 Certina and STC have worked together to help protect sea turtles and their natural environments. Inspired by the historic DS SUPER PH1000M from 1970, this eye-catching new timepiece presents a fascinating blue dial with orange accents and luminous indexes. Its Powermatic 80 movement has an 80-hour power reserve and NivachronTM balance spring.
Sea turtles under threat of extinction
Founded in 1959, Florida-based STC works to ensure the survival of sea turtles through research, information campaigns and practical measures designed to assist wounded or endangered animals. That same year Certina introduced the DS concept and its turtle symbol; Certina and turtles have been together for 65 years now. In addition to financial support, Certina produces videos and content regarding STC projects, organises joint press events and makes use of special POS displays to raise awareness. Rising sea levels and water temperatures, plastic waste, beachfront construction and disorienting lighting combine to form a growing threat to the survival of the species.
A maritime timepiece with a passion for extreme depths, the DS SUPER PH1000M STC offers exceptional water resistance to 100 bar (1,000 metres), while its Powermatic 80 movement delivers a precise and reliable heartbeat. Complementing the DS (Double Security) build are standout features including the unidirectional turning bezel with security system, automatic winding, a power reserve of up to 80 hours and an anti-magnetic NivachronTM balance spring. The dial hints at the special blue of the STC logo, and the orange accents are identical in tone to those on existing models of the DS Super PH1000M, creating a striking contrast to the robust black rubber strap. All in all, this impressive diver’s watch is ready for adventure, on land or underwater.
Certina shares STC’s tireless commitment to protecting sea turtles and has collaborated with the conservancy since 2017. The brand has released numerous special editions of its timepieces, melding horological expertise, superb craftsmanship and robust design with the enduring aims of the STC. As was the case with these earlier editions, a portion of the proceeds from sales goes directly to the STC.
The new DS SUPER PH1000M STC will be available from authorised Certina retailers worldwide from July 2024.
